A - C

Account ID

  • is a unique combination of numbers and letters (e.g., 48313:747ca7) that identifies your Tapfiliate account.It is essential for setting up technical integrations and ensuring that all affiliate-driven clicks and conversions are correctly tracked and attributed to you.

Advertiser (or Merchant):

  • The business or individual that owns the product or service and runs the affiliate program.

Affiliate

  • Person participating in an affiliate program.

Affiliate Agreement (or Affiliate Contract)

  • legal document outlining the terms, conditions, commission rates, and rules between the advertiser and affiliate, including payment schedules and prohibited actions.

Affiliate group

  • A special group of affiliates. Segmenting affiliates into groups allows you to assign different commission structures or settings to specific segments of your partners.

Affiliate Manager

  • The person or team responsible for overseeing the affiliate program, recruiting affiliates, approving commissions, and optimizing performance.

Affiliate Portal

  • The user interface where affiliates access their referral links, view performance metrics (like clicks, conversions, and earnings), and manage their account details

Affiliate prospect

  • Someone who has been sent a referral link but has not yet officially signed up to become an affiliate in your program.

Affiliate recruitment

  • A feature that lets you send referral links to your customers, allowing them to participate in your program without needing to sign up on their own.

Assets Wall

  • The Assets Wall in Tapfiliate is a dedicated section where your affiliates can find all the promotional materials (like links, banners, and coupons) you provide. It's their central hub to easily access, copy, and share assets to promote your program, ensuring proper tracking for their efforts.

Balance

  • The total amount of approved commissions that an affiliate is due to be paid. It is calculated as all approved commissions minus any amounts that have already been paid out.

Bonus

  • An automatic reward given to an affiliate when they achieve a specific, pre-set goal you've defined in the program.

Cap

  • A limit on the total number of conversions that can be tracked for a particular customer.

Click

  • A click is registered when a user lands on your website through a referral link, which activates the click tracking script on your page.

Cloaking

  • A technique where affiliates mask or shorten affiliate links to make them more user-friendly or protect against scraping, often using URL shorteners or redirects.

Commission

  • A commission is the reward an affiliate will receive when they drive a conversion. This can be either calculated depending on the amount of the conversion (percentage based), or a fixed reward.

Commission types

  • A feature that allows for the creation of different commission rates. This is useful if you want to offer varied commissions for different actions or products/SKUs. Implementation may require assistance from a developer.

Conversion

  • The event that is recorded when a user with a tracking cookie lands on a specific page, usually a “Thank You” or order confirmation page. All conversions appear on the Conversions Page.

  • A small piece of data placed in a user's browser when they click a referral link. It contains program and attribution information used to assign a conversion to the correct affiliate.

Cookie Lifetime (or Cookie Duration)

  • The specific length of time a tracking cookie remains active in a user's browser after they click a referral link. Any conversions the user makes within this period will be credited to the affiliate.

Creative (or Asset):

  • Any promotional material provided by an advertiser to an affiliate. This can include text links, banners, product images, or videos that affiliates can use on their own channels

Cost Per Action (CPA)

  • A commission model where affiliates earn a fixed payment for a specific user action, such as a lead form submission or sign-up, rather than a sale.

Cost Per Click (CPC)

  • A payment model where affiliates are rewarded for each click on their referral link, regardless of whether it results in a conversion.

Cost Per Mille (CPM)

  • Commission structure paying affiliates a fixed rate for every 1,000 impressions (views) of their promotional content or ad.

Coupon

  • A discount, promo, or voucher code that can be used to track and attribute a conversion to a specific affiliate when a customer uses it at checkout. Setting up coupon tracking might require help from a developer.

Custom field

  • An additional question you can add to your affiliate sign-up form. This feature is available on our Scale and Enterprise plans.

Customer

  • A person who was referred by an affiliate and has either purchased your product or signed up for your service.

Deep link

  • A link that points to a specific page on your website, created by adding extra parameters to a standard referral link.

Default Marketing Asset

  • The default (or basic) marketing asset for every approved affiliate is their unique referral link. This link is automatically generated for them to start promoting your program immediately.

External id

  • A unique identifier for a conversion that allows you to cross-reference data in Tapfiliate with your own transaction records.

Fraud (or Affiliate Fraud)

  • Invalid or deceptive activities, such as fake clicks or self-referrals, that artificially inflate commissions; detected and prevented via Tapfiliate's monitoring tools.

Integration

  • The process of installing Tapfiliate on your website.

Lifetime commission

  • Commission structure whereby all conversions/purchases made by a referred customer will be attributed to the affiliate that initially referred them.

Lead

  • A potential customer action, like a sign-up or inquiry, tracked as a conversion that qualifies for affiliate commissions (often used in CPA models).

M - O

Marketing Asset

  • In Tapfiliate, a Marketing Asset is any promotional material you provide to your affiliates. The basic one is their unique referral link. You can also upload other materials like banners or images for them to use. These assets help affiliates promote your business, and Tapfiliate ensures proper tracking.

Metadata

  • Additional information that can be retrieved with a conversion. May require the assistance of a developer to help implement.

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)

  • A marketing strategy that allows affiliates to recruit other affiliates (sub-affiliates) and earn commissions from the conversions generated by those they have recruited.

One-off commission

  • Straightforward and common payment model where an affiliate earns a single, fixed payment for a specific action taken by a referred customer.

P - R

Program

  • (also known as an "affiliate program" or "partner program") is a formal arrangement set up by a company (the merchant or advertiser) to pay a commission to individuals or other companies (the affiliates or publishers) for sending them customers or leads.

Pixel

  • A small tracking code (or image) embedded on a conversion page to "fire" and record events like sales or leads for attribution to affiliates.

Publisher

  • Synonym for affiliate: an individual or site that publishes promotional content and referral links to drive traffic and earn commissions.

Recurring commission

  • A commission structure, typically used by subscription or SaaS businesses, where an affiliate earns a new commission for every payment a referred subscriber makes.

Referral Link

  • The unique URL provided to an affiliate. This link contains the affiliate's unique ID, which allows the system to track the traffic and sales they generate.

Payout

  • The process of paying an affiliate their earned and approved commissions. Payouts typically occur when an affiliate's balance reaches a minimum threshold.

S - Z

Shortlink

  • A tool that allows affiliates to transform a long referral URL into a shorter, cleaner link. This feature is available in the new version of the Affiliate portal.

Team member

  • Another person from your organization who helps you manage your affiliate program within Tapfiliate.

Trigger

  • A specific event that automatically initiates another action. For instance, approving a new affiliate can trigger a welcome email to be sent.

Webhook

  • An automated way for apps to communicate. A webhook can send real-time data from your affiliate program to another application whenever a specific event occurs, such as a new conversion or affiliate approval.
