There may be certain situations in which a submission might turn up an error.

Below we will list three situations where this error might arise.

Situation 1: VAT id is incorrect

In the case that your VAT id does not exist, it will not be accepted. You can verify this by checking with the VIES VAT number validator. Here you can indicate your country and VAT number, and it will let you know if it is valid.

Situation 2: VAT id is not valid for cross-country transactions

In the case that your VAT id is not valid for cross-country transactions, it will not be accepted. You can verify this by checking with the VIES VAT number validator. It will let you know if the VAT id submitted can be used for cross-country transactions.

Situation 3: VAT id is correct, valid for cross-country transactions, but there is still an error

If this happens, it may be due to a temporary outage of the VIES VAT number validation system in your VAT id region. If we're unable to validate it, then it won't be possible to set the id in your account. You can check if your region's VAT id validation system is online or suffering an outage by using the validator. If it's offline or suffering from an outage, wait a few hours until it is operational again, and resubmit your VAT id in the field.
